How I Work

What’s it like to work with me?   Here you’ll get a sense of my guiding beliefs, my approach to your projects, and how I'm different.

What to expect when you work with me:

  • You will be free to concentrate on what you do best.  You can confidently leave the wordsmithing to me and later show off your awesome marketing materials and website to your friends and customers.
  • You don’t have to fret about what to say or how to say it.  Tell me about your business and your best customers and you’ll be left with marketing materials you’ll be proud to display.
  • You don’t have to worry about your marketing materials sounding salesy.  I take the time to unearth your company’s uniqueness and communicate it in a way that resonates with your best customers—they respond because there’s a natural match, not hyped-up claims.
  • You’ll have a partner who not only writes your website and newsletter copy, but insists they align with your mission and vision.  I take a holistic approach to marketing, just as you do to health.  A watchful eye on the content and tone of your marketing materials strengthens your company’s brand image.
  • Your existing content will be polished and proofed within an inch of its life. We specialize in retaining your original intent while spicing up the copy for a maximum ERR (Eyeball Retention Rate).  100% proofreading perfection is our standard.

My guiding beliefs:

Boring, stiff and impersonal words must be banished. (Unless it is for a dissertation, and while I won’t write those, I might proofread them.)  I may break the rules a bit.  Use nouns as verbs.  (Did you catch “wordsmithing” above?)  I aim to keep your customers reading.  There are several good reasons for this.  Ask me about that later.

Proofreading means 100% total accuracy. And not just spelling and grammar (though the rules may be broken for a good reason—see above).  It’s your layout, colors, margins and other things that lend to your credibility.  I watch out for all those things.  I can detect 1/16 of an inch of unevenness.  Don’t worry, I know that’s annoying.  It’s a blessing…and a curse.  But it always works out best for you.

Marketing holistically takes more effort, but yields better results. Everything you do to promote your business matters.  I don’t write your website or materials with blinders on.  I make sure it flows and reflects your brand image.

I use the AIRTM method of writing:  Authentic, Interesting, and Relevant. Yes, I made that up.  But, it’s based on fact.  Authenticity counts.  People today can spot an exaggeration or gasp a lie a long way off.  People will read as many pages as you can write…as long as it’s interesting.  And the best way (in addition to powerful words) to keep their attention is to talk about their favorite subject: them.  Their lives, their pains, their needs, their desires.  And that’s called relevance.

What makes WordPower unique?

I am passionate about alternative health and know why it’s important. You don’t have to waste time explaining to me why people need to avoid sugar like the plague, or how muscle testing works.  Heck, I’ve already done the diet, cleansed my chakras and bought the t-shirt.  This is where my personal experiences come in handy:  a) I save you time; b) I have an inkling of your client’s most probable questions and concerns and c) I contribute ideas and suggestions to make your marketing communications more impactful to your audience.

I'm a geek about marketing. I'm curious about words and their ability to inspire action.  So if you’re wondering, that’s where the name, WordPower, came from.  I absorb all my favorite marketing gurus’ books and advice.  Most of the “greats” talk about marketing psychology, which seriously floats my boat.  I'm a big fan of The Wizard Academy and have traveled far to attend courses held there.  Bottom line, I pay attention to this geeky marketing stuff and apply only the best and most relevant concepts to your projects.

I was taught by Catholic school nuns. Seriously, I wouldn't joke about that.  Anybody who went to Catholic school knows the curriculum consisted mostly of reading, writing, grammar, spelling and phonics—with a little math and science thrown in.  Language skills were important and so was perfection.  One disapproving glare from an enshrouded pair of eyes dispensed enough guilt to make you sink through the floor in humiliation.  Let my childhood traumas go to work for you!  As God is my witness, there will be no errors…
